Change of Ideas

April has ended and May is here. We are concerned for the wellbeing of the students of BHS, and sometimes this causes us to blog about very heavy or dark topics; however, as the school year comes to an end it is best to end on a happy note. EOC testing’s and final projects in all classes causes the students to be stressed, it is good to take a break once and awhile to relieve this stress. This month we want to make you smile, bring weeks of joy, and make it a Month of Happiness. During May we will be posting various jokes, links to hilarious videos, and more.

Although this is the Month of Happiness, we will also be sharing an effort to create change in our education system such as the employment of waited grades, the “lock downs” during Spartan Time, and many more.

If there is something you would like us to look at or possibly have it appear on our blog, that’s funny or you think needs publicity please leave a comment below.

The Worst Drugs

Everyone knows about Meth, cocaine, marijuana, and others. Most people would think that these are the worst drugs in the world. If you think they are then you’re wrong because you probably have no clue about some of the drugs listed below. When searching for last week’s video, the We Are Battle Blog team found these new drugs that are starting to circulate:

Flakka also known as gravel or the insanity drug. Flakka is a new synthetic drug that makes you go crazy. Reports say that people on Flakka have done things from impale them self’s on fence posts outside a police station to kicking in the door of a police station calming cars are chasing them. Below is a man running naked through the streets screaming that everyone is trying to steal his cloths.

Krokodil or crocodile is a synthetic drug from Russia that has begun to appear in America and other countries. It gets its name from the side effects of what it does which is; change skin tissue green and scaly. Long turn usage results in loss of muscle and skin tissue and sever bone damage. Short term users are usually scarred for life.

Devils Breath

We have saved the worst of them all for last. Devils Breath scientific name is Scopolamine and is made from the Borrachero tree found in Colombia. This drug is often blown into the faces of victims but can be put in drinks as well. After exposed, the drug takes only minutes to ‘zombify’ the victim. The victim is coherent but has no free will and will do whatever they are told to do. This drug blocks the creation of memory, after it wears off the victim will not remember its influence. Below is the Brrachero tree which produces the drug.

Thinking About Trying Meth? Not Even Once....

Meth is a terrible drug. After one time, smoking, injecting, or another form of taking it in, it can rule your life. You may think only once, but once is all meth needs. Watch the full length of the video below to see the full impact Meth has.

WARNING THE VIDEO BELOW CONTAINS GRAPHIC CONTENT. VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.

Thanks to www.methproject.org we found the most disturbing video warning against meth abuse. The sad part is that those things could actually happen to anyone who uses meth. Don’t use meth. Not even once.

Alcohol Abuse

Alcohol has become acceptable and is sometimes encouraged by society. To some it is not seen as a drug, but as a common drink like Pepsi or Coca-Cola. However when people drink large amounts of alcohol they are not thinking of what it means, what it’s doing, and most importantly what can happen. Below is a video about what can happen when you make the choice to drink.

Don’t let another person get hurt by the mistakes of a drunk. Don’t cause another person to live their life like Jacqueline Saburido. Don’t drink and drive - or even better - don’t drink at all.

Teen Suicide Signs for Parents

Teen suicide is a big problem, and as parents you know your teen better than anybody. More teenagers die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic lung disease, COMBINED. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for teenagers.

You may be asking yourself; “How can I detect if my teen is suicidal?” Well it is simple, know the signs and don’t ignore them.
The signs of suicide include:

  • withdrawal from friends and family members
  • trouble in romantic relationships
  • difficulty getting along with others
  • changes in the quality of schoolwork or lower grades
  • rebellious behaviors
  • unusual gift-giving or giving away own possessions
  • appearing bored or distracted
  • writing or drawing pictures about death
  • running away from home
  • changes in eating habits
  • dramatic personality changes
  • changes in appearance (for the worse)
  • sleep disturbances
  • drug or alcohol abuse
  • talk of suicide, even in a joking way
  • having a history of previous suicide attempts

Don’t let it get out of hand, talk with your kids. It could save them.

In Loving Memory of Cody Wayne Hendren

March is Suicide Awareness Month at Battle High School in memory of Cody Hendren, who died Saturday, March 15, 2014. He was an incredible addition to Battle in its first year. Many of us will always remember him as a good student, friend, brother, and son, but he was so much more than that. He was amazing in every definition of the word.

This Friday, March 13th at 4:15 p.m. we held a memorial service in the Performing Arts Center at Battle High School. During the weeks leading up to the service we sold yellow bracelets that stated, "We Stand Together." All of the money generated by bracelet sales went to construction of a bench that was dedicated in Cody's honor. The bench will be placed outside the PAC at Battle High School.

Cody's life was tragically ended, but it mattered beyond measure. The message his family and friends would like to share is that suicide is a permanent solution to life's temporary problems. Suicide is NEVER the answer.

If you or someone you know are suffering from suicidal thoughts - TELL SOMEONE. There are people who care waiting to help. Talk to a trusted adult, or call 1 800 SUICIDE.

March is Suicide Awareness Month

March is Suicide Awareness month at Battle High School. We chose this topic for March to honor the memory of one of our own. Last year we lost a Battle student to suicide, and we want to make sure our students are aware that there is always another option. IT GETS BETTER.

Suicide is the THIRD leading cause of death for youth ages 12-18. More teenagers and young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic lung disease, COMBINED.

If you're feeling hopeless DO NOT commit suicide. You may think you're alone, but you can't imagine the impact on those you love, or how much you'll truly be missed.

If you or someone you know is having suicidal thoughts DON'T KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. Make sure you share with a friend, teacher, administrator, or guidance counselor and DON'T HESITATE to call 1 (800) 784-2433 - that's  1 (800) SUICIDE.
